Ketchup

M Kimbell
I took my little sisters out to eat at Milo's and one of them wouldn't eat or talk, so I took some pictures of her to make her laugh.  I burned the background some, but that's all I did to the photo. I liked how the ketchup was defined and she wasn't.

I think it has more to do with personal preference than anything else, but I think that this photo would be so much better without your sister in the background. Her being there takes some away from the photo, even though she's out of focus. My eye immediately goes to her face, and then I follow her eyes to the ketchup, which isn't what should happen if the ketchup is the subject. That said, without her in it, I think the composition is perfect and the subject is interesting, and would make for a very good photo.

I really like how glossy and textured the ketchup looks. It gives it an unrealistic feel while the background captures the realistic feel. The light from the window definitely adds an interesting touch as well as the pink on your sister's jacket. I like that the ketchup is in focus and that you made this picture in an everyday space and didn't even have to go anywhere to capture it.

I like this photo, but the ketchup is in such good focus and taken from an interesting viewpoint that I think the background should be blurred more as not to take away from this. Nice work.
